Going pickup shopping? Don't spend your life savings. Here's a better alternative: Tonerider is a fairly new manufacturer, originating in 2003, but they sure know how to make pickups like the best of them. The Rebel 90's are a cross between humbuckers and P90s. They have a very strong output and a great tone to go with it. I mean, really great. The highs are sharp and the bass tight, giving the guitarist the best sounding pickups you'll ever find for under $150. Probably even under $200, for that matter. The Rebel 90s arrive at your door in beautiful cases, which are a big thing for me, since most of the pickups I've bought are a tangled mess when they arrive. The pickups look great, there are no obvious flaws or scratches. *By the way, if you're looking for the screws, they're under the foam. Don't make the same mistake I did.* However, t's the tone that really sets these guys apart. I decided to stick the Rebels into an Epiphone Special II, not a great guitar or anything (though it did surprise me), but the Rebels really upgraded it. |
It's not even really describable, the sound I got from that guitar with the replacement pickups. There's a video above that lets you hear the great tone. However, he's playing a nice guitar-- you've got to hear it on a cheap Epiphone! So! I'm going to make a video sometime in the near future to really demonstrate the tonal qualities of the Tonerider Rebel 90s. Look out for it. But for now, 5/5, for these Rebels, they are a huge breakthrough. |
